PUMA have flown out of the blocks in terms of boot launches in 2020 by dropping the loud and proud ‘Spark Pack’ as their first boot collection of the decade. The Future 5.1 and ONE 5.1 silos are given fresh colourways to drop as part of the new “Spark Pack” and have been worn by all PUMA players from this past weekend (date of article 22 Jan 2020).
PUMA’s ace in the pack is undoubtedly the Future 5.1 design with its bright yellow ‘NetFit’ upper on the black soleplate, as seen above. The Future 5.1 arrives as the first colour variation since the new-generation boot was launched at the back end of 2019. While we admire what PUMA have done here in terms of the design, we think there is just too much going on in terms of the colourway on this one.
It definitely feels that PUMA have taken inspiration for this colourway from one of their flagship club partners in Borussia Dortmund and despite our opinions on the colourway, we can see how this would look strong on the pitch when worn with the BVB home kit. Wouldn’t look out of place of some of the Watford players too.
The ONE 5.1 update that you see above arrives in an equally bright yellow upper with a wavy grooved detailing and will be worn by the likes of Sergio Aguero and David Silva, who will be wearing throughout January and February as PUMA make a vibrant start to the new decade. There’s a big summer of football coming up in 2020 and PUMA we are really impressed with the strides that PUMA have made over the past year in both their lifestyle and apparel ranges as well as the boot collections. They really did produce some monstrosities during the mid-2010s and so it is great to see being mentioned again in the same bracket as the Nike’s, adidas and Umbro’s of this world.
Given the pace of change in the world of boot manufacturing, it will be interesting to see what colourways and update packs PUMA bring out between now and the international tournaments, which include the African Cup of Nations and EURO 2020.
