Here it is, a date in the calendar that unites both the old-school boot collector and the modern day boot aficionado, the launch of the new generation of adidas Predator. The Predator is back. The Predator 20 Mutator is finally unveiled in full as adidas introduce their new ‘DEMONSKIN’ technology, which to you and I means a welcome return the famous rubber upper which makes us all believe we can cream one in to the top bins.

Dropping in the only colourway possible for a new launch of the iconic series, the Predator 20 Mutator is built with DEMONSKIN technology to maximise ball control. What is DEMONSKIN I hear you ask? I mean let’s be fair it doesn’t sound great. DEMONSKIN is an innovative layer created by adidas with the aim of enhancing grip and spin on the ball. This technology has been years in the making and is a result of years of data-based research, testing and a computer algorithm being used to create an entirely new interface between boot and ball. Pretty impressive.

This research has culminated in 406 DEMONSKIN spikes being purposely crafted to wrap the front and side of the boot in a way that aligns to key contact points with the ball. The result adidas say is enhanced control and touch on the ball, while also promoting spin when striking. So if your second touch is usually a tackle, these may be the boots for you.

Ben Herath, adidas Football Design Director said; “When we launched the first Predator in 1994, it changed the game. For 2020 we wanted to unleash Predator to a new generation. We knew that we had to create something completely different, go beyond evolution and deliver a new innovation, something that would intimidate opponents. DEMONSKIN is at the heart of this. It truly is a breakthrough innovation for us at adidas Football – something brand-new with tangible benefits to gameplay. This was evidenced in player testing, where many spoke of the immediate difference they felt with the ball at their feet.”
